Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has started delivering the quickest car in the world thus far, and some features did surprise that the automaker’s fans. The company sent 25 Model S Plaid sedans in an event at its mill in Fremont, Calif. on Thursday and guaranteed to pick up the shipping pace in the coming weeks and months.
Tesla Delivers The First Model S Plaids
The Model S Plaid begins at $129,990 after a $10,000 price growth , although Tesla said present orders placed at the reduced cost would be honored. The car sports a tri-motor powertrain with one electric motor at the front and two in the trunk, adding up to 1,020 horsepower. ) The automaker touts the Plaid variant of the Model S as the most effective sedan available today.
Tesla claims the car can go from 0 60 miles per hour in under two minutes and then drive a quarter of a mile in 9. 23 seconds. If those numbers are true, they would be records for manufacturing cars. The automaker also said the Model S Plaid could reach a top speed of 200 miles per hour.
The car has a recorded range of 390 miles per full charge, and it takes only 15 minutes of charging in a Tesla Supercharger station to fill the battery up with 187 kilometers of range. The automaker was working on a Plaid+ version of the automobile that would have had more power and a variety of 520 miles. But, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said last week they had canceled the Plaid+ because the Plaid was”just so good.”
Tesla will even begin offering a slower long-range variant of this Model S with dual motors that may travel 412 miles per full charge. The car will begin at $79,990, and deliveries will begin later.
